Do you want to feel younger, have more energy, and lengthen your lifespan?
What Are Telomeres?
Telomeres are stretches of repetitive DNA strands that cap the ends of chromosomes. Like the burning of a fuse, telomeres at the ends of our chromosomes steadily shorten every time a cell replicates itself. Once telomeres reach a critically short length, cell renewal virtually stops, leading to accelerated aging or death of the cell. Telomere shortening is both a marker of cellular aging and a predictor of shortened lifespan.
Telomeres degrade and shorten with age and can become excessively damaged in certain genetic diseases, as well as from lifestyle factors such as smoking, poor diet, and chronic stress. Shortening of telomeres is associated with the symptoms of aging, heart disease, DNA damage and uncontrolled cell replication, which can lead to cancer.
What is NAD+?
NAD+ is a cellular coenzyme that’s found in every cell of our bodies. NAD+ is necessary to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the compound the body uses for fuel. For those unfamiliar with NAD and NAD+, it stands for nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, which is a commonly found coenzyme in living cells. As an important part of the electron transport chain, NAD levels should be adequate or else people experience increased aging, the premature death of different types of cells, and impaired cognitive function.
As humans age, levels of NAD+ decline, which is one of the significant markers contributing to worse performance. A 2004 study in Drugs Under Experimental and Clinical Research found that NADH supplements could be used to improve cognitive performance of Alzheimer’s patients.
The laundry list of performance issues that stem from poor NAD levels need not be repeated here, but having extra NAD+ may prove beneficial for enhancement. NAD+ is found in every cell; it promotes cellular energy production and supports cellular metabolism. NAD is also critical for the activity of sirtuins which have global anti-aging properties. Comparing our cellular metabolism to a cash economy, Verdin describes NAD+ as the armored trucks that transfer money between institutions. “Money is the fuel. If you can’t transport the money, then the whole economy comes to a halt. It all comes crashing down. That’s how important NAD+ is to our cellular health and we look forward to applying this discovery to our efforts to stem the ravages of age-related disease.”
There are a wide variety of biohacking techniques gaining in popularity, but few are more interesting than NAD+ and the potential effects it has on health
span and longevity. NAD provides what some called a “fountain of youth”. With bountiful amounts of NAD your cells are able to activate enzymes to prevent and correct DNA damage. Superhero enzymes, such as sirtuins.
NAD+ Benefits
Flooding the body with NAD injections provides a jumpstart for mitochondrial health and support. According to all doctors (and most clinical applications), doing injections for a short period of time and then supplementing afterwards is the best way to go. It’s like jumpstarting a car battery. At first, some serious power (in the form of another vehicle) is needed to get the battery going. After it is up and running, the simple process of keeping the engine running is enough to charge up the battery. NAD injections work similarly in this way.
From most anecdotal accounts, the NAD injections provide a far higher subjective feeling than the theoretical benefits of NAD supplements.
